Apple just unveiled the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, here’s what you need to know about the new devices.
The new devices features improved performance, a range of new colors, the Dynamic Island that is previously seen on the iPhone 14 Pro, and USB-C port that will replace the Lightning connector.
No New Design
There is no new design for the new iPhones, they look largely the same as the previous iPhone 14. All the new models will come with the Dynamic Island though.
Like its predecessor, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus sports a 6.1-inch and a 6.7-inch display respectively. But unlike last year, he screen is also an OLED Super Retina display, which can go up to 2000 nits of peak brightness. The glass also has ceramic shield which is tougher than any iPhone glass.
Under the Hood
Under the hood, both iPhones is powered by the A16 Bionic chip. This chip was also equipped on the previous iPhone 14 Pro models.
A second-generation Ultra-Wideband chip is also featured in the new iPhones. This improves the range when locating. Precision Finding will also let a user directly navigate to a person, not just with AirTags.
In terms of battery life, the base model has the same battery life as its predecessor. Meanwhile the 15 Plus will have a bigger internal battery, resulting in an even longer battery life.
The Lightning connector is no more as the new iPhones will come with a USB-C port. This is good news as USB-C is a far superior port in terms of performance.
Improved Camera System
Apple has also upgraded the camera system of the new iPhones. The base model now includes a 48MP main sensor, just like last year’s iPhone 14 Pro. This sensor also enables 1x and 2x zoom modes, as well as the usual 0.5x ultra-wide lens.
Another upgrade is Portrait Mode, its synthetic bokeh portrait shots now offer better low-light performance than ever before. It will also now be automatically enabled when shooting a subject in the main camera mode. After the photo has been taken, you can also still change the focus.
Price and Availability
The iPhone 15 will be available in pink, yellow green, blue, and black, and will have the same starting price as last year, at USD 799 (approx. PHP 45k+).
Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Plus will have a starting price of USD 988 (approx. PHP 50k+). Both devices will launch globally on September 22, 2023, with pre-orders starting on September 15, 2023.
