ASUS signs deal with Microsoft – Office to be bundled on Android Phones

ASUS now joins Samsung, Sony, LG, and 20 or more other manufacturers that have already signed deals with Microsoft to bundle Office apps on Android devices.

ASUS apparently just recently signed a patent licensing deal with Microsoft. And as part of the deal, they agreed to pre-install Microsoft productivity services including Microsoft Office on their Android smartphones and tablets.

ASUS was part of a group of smartphone manufacturers as well as Google that was sued for patent infringement last 2013 by the Rockstar patent consortium – owned by Microsoft, Apple, Blackberry Ericcson and Sony. And it was reported that Microsoft and Google announced a settlement from 20 patent lawsuits just recently. Apparently, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella wants to focus on getting Microsoft products onto as many Android device as possible rather than to duke it out in the mobile operating system arena. This strategy clearly works for them better.
